I have a question for you lovelies:

are those "The Collector's Edition" DVDs of The Carol Burnett Show any good? my lovely husstastic friend brightredday has decided she wants to be Carol Burnett [and Helen Mirren] when she grows up but she's never seen the show. I said "Bump Up the Lights" was decent, but I know nothing about the other DVDs on Amazon. since you are the Authorities on All Things Carol Burnett, what do you think is the best option for showing her the show?

Okay, so I have spent entirely too much time in the last few days trying to make a layout for this community. In my defense, I really like playing around with Photoshop and I was having a good time, or at least I told myself I was, but by the fifth time I had to stop myself from throwing the computer out of the window in frustration, I probably should have been able to acknowledge that the joy I derive from graphic design was maaaaaybe falling by the wayside a bit. Seriously, LJ. OMGWTF. I don't know why it won't let me lay out the background such that the pictures are placed relative to the text box, so that it would look the same on anyone's monitor regardless of that person's individual resolution settings and monitor size, and I don't know why it INSISTS on giving me this ugly blue-gray-and-black "bruise" layout (no, really, that's what it's called, "bruise") when I keep telling it I want "banana peel" (banana peel, then bruise - is LJ having a joke on us?), and I don't know why smoke is jetting out of my ears when it's just an LJ layout, Kylie, settle down.

So. Anyway. I know how this layout looks on my computer: the colors are all wrong, but at least the physical layout is right - i.e., the picture on the left hand side isn't blocked by the text box. What I don't know is how the layout looks for anyone else. So, if you'd be so kind to indulge me in this, a completely non-Carol-related post, and just pop over to the comm for a quick second to take a look at the layout and tell me how it looks to you, I'd be much obliged.

What does the layout look like on your computer?

It looks great! The text box doesn't overlap the pictures on the side, the color scheme of the text box matches the color scheme of the background, and I like the overall look.
0(0.0%)
The text box doesn't overlap and the color scheme matches, but I'm not a big fan of the overall look.
0(0.0%)
The text box overlaps on my computer, but it's mostly orange and thus matches the color scheme.
0(0.0%)
The text box overlaps on my computer, but it's mostly yellow and thus matches the color scheme.
2(66.7%)
The text box doesn't overlap on my computer, but the text box is blue/gray/black and thus doesn't match the background.
1(33.3%)
The text box overlaps and it's blue/gray/black.
0(0.0%)
What background? There's no background. The background is the standard one for that layout.
0(0.0%)

Or, put in other terms, I see:

A Carol Burnett background
0(0.0%)
A blue/gray/black text box
0(0.0%)
A primarily orange text box
1(20.0%)
A primarily yellow text box
0(0.0%)
A text box that overlaps the Carol Burnett pictures on the left hand side
1(20.0%)
A text box that doesn't overlap the Carol Burnett pictures on the left hand side
1(20.0%)
Something else that is completely bizarre
0(0.0%)

(I forgot to mention, on the last question, tick all that apply.)

Seriously, LJ. You know you own my life. Why must you torment me this way? Haven't I been a good and loyal servant?

Carol may guest-star on both The Office and Grey's Anatomy

FanTAStic. The Office is the funniest show out there right now, and judging from the number of friends I have who fangirl Grey's Anatomy, it's not doing too badly for itself either. Me = excited.

Also, I love her shirt.

Also also, Canada's Next Top Model, Andrea Muizelaar, is apparently being referred to as "a Carol Burnett lookalike":

...actually, I guess if you got rid of the clown's nose I could sorta see that.

Whatever happened to this? (Note the date, and the prediction that it would air "this summer".)

I am sad.

Today is a glorious day, a fantabulous, splendiferous, extraordinary day. For today is the day that I have received my very own copy of the 1972 TV airing of Once Upon a Mattress, starring Carol Burnett as Princess Winnifred the Woebegone and co-starring Bernadette Peters as Lady Larken. (Furthermore, it does NOT feature Joe Bova as Prince Dauntless. Anyone who has heard the original cast recording will understand my immense relief.)

You have no idea how hard the '72 version was to find. It would have been easier to get hold of the Holy Grail. This was one of those cases where eBay was just not sufficient.

This means that I now own the magic triad in its entirety: DVD copies of the '64 version, the '72 version, and the '05 version. (The first two feature Carol as Fred, and in the third she's Queen Aggravain.) I have this sense of awe.

No, but seriously. I PWN.

When will it be the end of the day so I can snuggle up in front of the TV with a λ, a kitty or two and a giant bowl of popcorn?

Quick update: ABC has postponed Carol's episode of Desperate Housewives, because they are lowdown dirty rat bastards. Postponed it to show a double-length episode of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, no less. SERIOUSLY. So Carol-on-DH is now airing next Sunday, April 16th. Unless, that is, they decide to show a triple-length Pimp My Ride or something and postpone it again. Assholes.

For anyone who was not aware: Carol will be appearing on this Sunday's episode of Desperate Housewives, playing the role of Bree Van De Kamp's stepmother. It airs on ABC on Sunday April 9th, 9 pm EST; check your local listings.

two picturesCollapse )

and a summary of what's been going on on the show recently, for anyone who doesn't watch and wants to get up to speedCollapse )

Sunday! ABC! 9 pm EST! WATCH IT!

Also, since we have ::gasp:: like five members now - what would y'all like this comm to be? I'm perfectly happy to keep rattling away with my periodic Carol updates, but you all are welcome to post too if you'd like. (You're also welcome to not post if you'd prefer that.) Never having run such a comm before, I'm sort of at a loss as to what I'm doing. Suggestions?

Also for anyone who's interested: YouTube, in addition to the Sesame Street bit, has got a full-length video of an episode of Get Smart in which Carol guest-starred. Such things make me happy.

AHAHAHAH SUCCESS!!!!111

That, my friends, is Carol Burnett on Sesame Street. Explaining what a nose is. In a tie. OMG. I want to have YouTube's babies.

Of course I can't actually listen to it here - no sound on the work computer and blah blah blah. (I will be playing it the second I get home, naturally.) And since it's just a couple of minutes long, I still need the full episode. Really, I ought to own the first episode of Sesame Street even if it didn't have Carol on it. But it does. So "ought" elevates to "need". Obviously.

The Intarwebs never cease to amaze me.

First post!

Well, jumping right into the pool, it has recently come to my attention via IMDb that Carol was on the very first episode of Sesame Street. Which, therefore, I need to get my hands on by yesterday or so. This is kind of the best thing I've ever heard in my life, that Carol was in the first episode of Sesame Street. Damn it all, this isn't the first time I've raged against Jim Henson's estate or PBS or whoever for not having released the early years of Sesame Street on DVD long since. I swear to God, it's a conspiracy, and Elmo is the one running it.

The other thing I need right now is Lights, Camera, Annie, a behind-the-scenes documentary on the making of Annie that features outtakes from "Easy Street". I.e., it features footage of Carol Burnett, Tim Curry, and Bernadette Peters messing around and messing up and probably generally being hilarious. Which makes it, like, the second best thing I've ever heard of in my life. I'm having absolutely no luck tracking it down though.

Oh, and then there's the 1972 TV airing of Once Upon a Mattress, featuring Carol as Princess Winnifred and Bernadette Peters as Lady Larken. Which is somewhere up there among the best things I've ever heard of too, I guess.

Sometimes I think I should switch to a contemporary fandom so that indulging my obsession wouldn't involve shelling out absurd amounts of money on eBay.

Anyway, enough whining. Future posts will contain screencaps, links, and, well, and more whining.
